Hello World!

Hello Everyone, I’d like you to meet Emily Jade, my darling daughter.

IMG00003

She was born at 1.31 am on December 2nd, 2009. She weighed in at 8lb. 3oz.  and measured 21 3/4″ long. It was a fairly easy delivery after being induced and mum and baby are healthy and happy (if tired). There are more pics in the Gallery and I’ll add to them when I can.

Obviously my already sporadic and non-existent posting schedule just got worse. Deal with it.

T Minus One Month (Give or Take)

So in a little under a month, the growth that has been hindering Tamara’s sleep will be excised and I will be the proud parent of a new baby wetums doll. Or something along those lines. Yup, that’s right… approximately 30 days from now is when the little squidlet is due and I can’t wait. No clue as to the baby’s gender as of yet, so that’ll be fun. Stuff around here isn’t ready yet at all… sigh! Such is the life of a hectic homeowner I guess.

I’ll post more once the time is nigh and obviously I’ll spam the obligatory newborn baby pics.

Ugh.. next I’ll be corralling you all into watching my home movies of the vacation to butt-fuck, nowhere. Bah!

Anyways, I shall spam more later. In the interim there is laundry to do and boxes to unpacketh. Yay me!

House Of Cards

Hello once again my dear friends (pretending that there is more than one of you still reading this makes it easier on my fragile ego). I seem to have become quite the delinquent blogger over the past little while. I guess having a family and a job that takes up all your time does sort of prevent certain time wasting elements of life.

So, let me ‘splain… no there is too much. I’ll sum up. Prince Humperdinck marry… errr nevermind. You all know the joke. I’ve used it enough times already that you can all just finish it in your heads at your convenience. Think of it as my gift to you.

So let’s see how things are in Gregtown.

Baby is somewhere in the 5th Month and making mommy rather grumptastic with it’s kickfests. Apparently the Five Nations Cup is being played in Tamara’s Uterus. We still don’t know the sex but that’s intentional. We decided not to find out… or rather, I did. Tamara would’ve prefered knowing that way if it is a boy then she can get rid of all of Kayden’s old clothes but I opted for the “Surprise! it’s a 2-headed alien” option and Tam grudgingly aquiesced.

We have decided on names for both sexes though. I know I said in a previous post that I wasn’t going to say what they were but I figure what the hell. Barring any last minute changes of heart after we’re introduced to the squidlet, the name(s) will be as such: If it’s a girl, Zoe Elizabeth and if it’s a boy, Liam James. If it’s a two headed alien… obviously the name will be Zaphod Trillian. Duuuuh!

And just because we figured that the squidlet should have more than a box over it’s head, Tam and I have been looking at houses for the past little while. Apparently some drunken dolt forgot to carry the one and I’m eligible for a mortgage. Who knew!??!? The bad news is it’s not the greatest amount known to man, but the good news is we’ve found a house and have an offer on it pending approval of our conditions (financing and home inspection). For those of you interested in where… if everything goes as planned, we’ll be moving back to the Fort come September. Yeah, you heard me. I’m moving back to Fort Saskatchewan. Trust me… it wasn’t something that I had intended to do but my money went farther there and so I shall once again be residing in the town that I spent 20 years trying to move out of. I know I keep hearing that old sawhorse “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it”. Somehow I keep thinking that they’re trying to tell me something.

I’d show you the MLS listing but there are limits to the amout of info I will share. If you need to know though, I’m sure you can figure out how to contact me if you need to.

On the plus side I guess I’ll be closer to Dale’s place for D&D night… yeah you heard that right as well. I got suckered into playing 4th Edition D&D and despite my earlier misgivings, I actually kind of like it. Now if only we played more than once a month for 4 hrs. Oh to be young and burden free once again.

I haven’t done much of my own game world design in ages. The demands on my time are just too much these days for me to do much of anything beyond idle tweaking of things in my head. Never fear though. I am sure to get back to it once I get the house set up. I have been given a whole room in the basement for geekery and gamedom. I shall rule supreme! I wonder if I can sneak in one of those really high end custom made gaming tables without Tam noticing. Yeah, me either.

Alright. There’s a new theme up and running. I am going to see how I like it over the next couple of days. I might switch back to the yellowy parchment-ish theme but this one might stay… it’ll all depend on my mood (and time).

On that note. I’m off to have a quick game of Bloodbowl and then bed. If anyone wants to play me. Give me a shout and I’ll try and hook up with you online and we can play a game.

A Saturday Night @ Elrond’s Place

Why hello again intarwebs. I see we’re still on speaking terms. How the hell are you?

Okay… Obviously I haven’t posted in awhile. Haven’t really had much to say. The baby is still gestating (we’re somewhere near the 18 week mark now) and all is right in the world.

So rather than bore you all with the mundanity of my life I have decided to waste your time with this amusing little gem of a gif that I found online.

Enjoy.

Incarnations of Immortality

I’ve always wanted to be immortal. To live a long and varied life and witness history unfold has immeasurable appeal to me. While the “Highlander” style of immortal where there can be only one does have it’s boyish charm, I’d much rather just live. Unfortunately things are not so. We only get a short span of years in the grand scheme of things.

Sometimes though, that can be enough to create your own little bit of immortality.

Something Resembling A Post

Once again here I am sitting in my darkened living room trying to wind down from a long day at work. I’m not really tired but I expect I’ll be up early so I should probably be in bed…

Obviously I’m not listening to myself and so here I sit listening to Zero by Yeah Yeah Yeahs and trying to wind down. Never said I was the brightest bulb in the room now did I?

I know it’s been somewhere in the range of 30 million years since my last substantial post and for that I apologize. Life… has been interesting, to say the least. Mostly I’ve just been busy with living my life and not actually being online 24/7 like I used to be.  Strange thing that.

I guess I should take the time now to expand and elaborate on some of the things that I summed up in my last post.

Now as you may recall, Tamara and I went to Rome just prior to last Thanksgiving and it was amazing. Exhausting, but absolutely fan-frickin-tastic! We spent a couple of days in London as well and just over a week in Rome itself. We didn’t get to see much else outside the city but what we did see we enjoyed. The history nerd in me was more than satiated on the ruins, architecture and general sense of history that permeated everything there. I’ve got a ton of pics (though less than I’d expected/intended) that I still need to sort and post and I will post them soon. I will however give you a quick shot that I took from inside the Colosseum just to tide you over.

Once we were back, I ended up facing a bit of a crisis at work. All the management staff that I had, up and left on me within a few weeks of each other and didn’t give me enough time to find (or train) their replacements. That left me dangerously short staffed going into the Christmas season and I ended up working 80+ hrs a few weeks in a row in an effort to keep the store open.  It also burned me out something fierce and definitely took it’s toll on my relationship. Thankfully though, I survived Christmas and managed to get some semi competent staff in to help me cope. Unfortunately the damage was done and I had become utterly burned out at the thought of work and all the things that still needed to be done to turn the store around. After discussing it with my boss, we came up with a solution that satisfied everyone. At the end of February, I ended up transferring to a different location, stepping down as a Store Manager to the role of Assistant Manager in a higher volume store where I could get the “training” that I had officially missed out on. Officially I’m a Store manager in Training on a 6 month development plan that will see me back running my own store by next christmas… or at least that’s the theory. I may end up telling them where to shove it before then if things don’t go so well.

With all the overwork and chaos of my life, I haven’t had much time to write anything and I’m sorely missing it. Now that my schedule is returning to some semblance of normality I’m going to try and take some time to regularly do some writing and I’ll hopefully get them transcribed and posted here at some point. If you’re lucky, they might be posted here before summer’s end.

Alright, It’s 3am now and I really need some sleep. I shall leave you with Yeah Yeah Yeahs and their new single Zero.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Zero

Enjoy Kidlets.

Oh Noes!

I’m back! Shock of all shocks, but I finally managed to figure out what was going on with my website and managed to have it fixed. It was a stupid backend problem with a wordpress plugin that was causing havoc and chaos all around.

Wow. I have a lot to catch up on.

Let me ‘splain.
[pause]
No, there is too much. Let me sum up.

Went to Rome. Had fun. Came back. Worked like a dog over Christmas pulling in multiple 88hr weeks. Got transferred to a different store. Got a “new” car.  Read Books. Lived Life. The end.

At some point now that the site is working again and that I’m back on a semblance of regular hours I will make some attempt at posting regularly once more. No guarantees as to when that will be.

Cheers for now. I’m off to watch Quantum of Solace.

When In Rome?

So in less than two weeks, Tamara and I will be in Rome, butchering the language, savouring the local cuisine and getting suitably and enjoyably lost in the twisting little streets all the while rubbernecking like the giddy tourists we are. Now we’ve got our own itinerary planned and our own ideas of what we want to see but I thought I’d take this time to see if anyone else had any suggestions of places to see (or places to avoid).

Looking forward to your ideas.
