Who Watches The Watchmen?

Posted by: Greg  in Geekery  @ 8:51 AM

Wooo! Watchmen Trailer

I’m moderately enthused to see this. I’ll be honest and say that I’m a little nervous about the look of the movie. I fear that it will be yet another butchering of Moore’s work but from what I can see there, it looks very faithful to the original and that querrelous auld git named Alan Moore will like it despite himself.

At first glance however it seems a little too glossy and shiny. In my mind’s eye, the Watchmen world was far darker and grittier but we’ll just have to wait and see. Casting, well I’m going to leave that one alone. Many people far, far nerdier than me have already spent hours in their batcaves and “command centers” designing the perfect dream cast of this movie and while I’ve dabbled here and there and have my opinions (*cough* Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Manhattan *cough*), I’m going to go in with an open mind and see how it works.

Speaking of comic adaptations. No, I still haven’t seen Dark Knight yet but I did see Hellboy II. It was a fun romp through cheesetastic cinema and funky creature designs from del Toro’s head. Personally I enjoyed it. It’s nothing immensely serious and overall I think I preferred the first one but this one is fun too.

Alright. Off to the land of showers and breakfasts I go.

I highly Recommend you go to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and see acts 1 and 2 of Joss Whedon’s Internet Musical starring Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day. It’s Great. I can’t wait for Act 3 on Saturday!

And now… I go see Hellboy 2 with my sweetheart. Yay me.

Now while living the cube life isn’t the best of experiences, I think if you had this happen regularly you might be able to put up with it… I know I would.

Website Issues

Posted by: Greg  in Geekery  @ 4:23 PM

Just a quick one here.
Yes I am aware that the website has been acting wonky. Things have been broken since my webhost redirected the DNS server to an old archive last week. I haven’t had a chance to fix it quite yet but I suspect I’ll have more free time in the coming week to devote a little bit more than a cursory glance to it.

Just bear with me and it’ll get done in time… Greg time that is *grin*

… And We’re Back

Posted by: Greg  in Geekery, Life  @ 12:12 PM

Woo!

Yay, I don’t have to wade through 10 months of archived posts trying to salvage things. It looks like my web host actually came through and found my missing sql databases. Hooray! Still no clue what all happened but right now I’m happy enough not to care and can now continue blissfully in my sporadic postings of deranged enlightenment.

In other news, I managed to see Iron Man yesterday. I figured I’d get it out of the way before Indy hits. It was good, but there were times that Robert Downey Jr.’s performance was just a little over the top and it grated ever so slightly. Still a great adaptation and it sets the stage for the sequel and the addition of Rhodes as War Machine. If you have the chance, I highly recommend seeing it.

Coming Late To The Party… Again

Posted by: Greg  in Geekery  @ 12:06 AM

So I stumbled upon another gem of a webcomic tonight and I’m amazed I hadn’t discovered it sooner.  It’s a brilliant amalgam of storytelling and art in a world reminiscent of a very trippy Alice in Wonderland. I can’t wait to read more because the story arc looks like it’s just beginning to unfold.

In the meantime I suggest you take a look for yoruselves and bask in the glory that is Kukuburi

If Your Life Was A Movie, What Would The Soundtrack Be?

Posted by: Greg  in Geekery, Music  @ 12:57 AM

Alright. I haven’t done one of these silly memes in awhile now. Going to place the blame fully on Christine for this one. Besides, placing the blame will totally distract everyone from my eclectically bad taste in music.

So, here’s how it works:

1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that’s playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don’t lie

A Bit of Mindless Fun

Posted by: Greg  in Geekery  @ 12:49 AM

Well, it’s been a fun weekend. The novelty of having a computer again still hasn’t worn off. I’m surfing randomly and trying to rebuild my bookmarks and links while also playing catch up with the sites that I haven’t had access to in the past 6 months. It’s bliss, glorious bliss.

Of course, once I had a working computer again one of the first things that I did was… no, not porn you dirty minded buggers. No, I downloaded the last couple of episodes from this season of Doctor Who! Yay geeky me. It was glorious.

Next was to go through all the fun and stupid links that people sent me.

I’m blaming my friend Tamara for these ones.

First up is a mindless little flash video that gave me a giggle.

Next up is Tokyo Plastic. An odd little Japanese site filled with modern and digital art. It’s not so much a website but an experience. Explore it, it’s rather unique and interesting.

There’s one more link that I can’t find at the moment that I really must share. it’s someone’s breakfast, ham and eggs and toast and bacon, transforming into a mecha like robot and dancing… it’s hillarious. When I find it I will post it. Until then, just imagine the cheesey goodness of that idea in your head.

That’s all from me for now. Back to surfing for cool schtuffz0r.
