Ahhhh!

And so the faithful gathered around the glowing box and watched in awe as the screen shimmered with light and and a cacophonic noise, not unlike a key being scraped down a piano wire, was heard. A blue box appeared and all was good.

Woot for the Christmas special and season 3 of Doctor Who.

*Dance!*

It was, as they say, FANTASTIC!

I Lubs teh Intarweb!

I have Doctor Who goodness just waiting for me to get off work tonight. This year’s Christmas special is downloaded and ready to go. All I need to do is get through the next 8 hours of pure hell, also known as working retail on Boxing Day and then I can bask in the glory that is The Runaway Bride. Ahhh.

Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go stab the voodoo doll of my boss a few more times before work. *grumble*

Well, Duh!

You Should Be a Science Fiction Writer

Your ideas are very strange, and people often wonder what planet you’re from.
And while you may have some problems being “normal,” you’ll have no problems writing sci-fi.
Whether it’s epic films, important novels, or vivid comics…
Your own little universe could leave an important mark on the world!

Hat tip once again goes to Shane (and he’s only getting a URL link this time cause he moved his website)

Paint em if you got em…

I think I’ve decided what my next miniature project is going to be.

I think I’m going to try and paint one of these monstrosities next just because they’re too bloody cool looking. Now I highly doubt I’ll come anywhere close to the paintjob shown here (I wish), but its still going to be fun to paint.

In case you were wondering, the figure is a Dire Troll Mauler from the Hordes range by Privateer Press. It’s fricken huge compared to other figs. Just to try and give you some sense of perspective, those hands can fit the torso, head and arms of a regular 28mm figurine, and the base is 50mm as opposed to the usual 25mm.

Since I have 3 days off in a row this weekend, and I have no plans to brave the Christmas hordes, I might actually get somewhere and paint him up. It’ll be fun. I’ll keep you all posted on my progress.

The Wilhelm Scream and Other Sordid Tales

So as some of you who watch tv or go to the movies on a regular basis, you may (or may not) realize that some of the sound effects you’re hearing are stock audio files that get recycled over and over again. A recent example would be the “Sherr-kow” noise from the Doom II video game that has appeared in practically every SF show and movie since then. A more classic example would be The Wilhelm Scream and now you can see just how many movies have actually had the scream incorporated into them in this little spiffy montage

And speaking of spiffy… well, not really… err anyhow. How many of you remember that classic Disney flick, Mary Poppins. How many of you can picture it remade into a horror movie? I know I couldn’t before seeing this little edited trailer.

Okay I think that’s enough tomfoolery from me for this fine evening.

G’bee G’bye G’boo.

Stupid quiz

And because it’s been quite awhile since I last posted a stupid little meme for you all to ogle over, here you go.

Heroes

And once again we’re going to talk about TV, and specifically about my favourite show this season. (Look if you don’t know what it is yet, look at the title of this post). This post will contain spoilers so if you haven’t seen last night’s (12-04-06) episode then you may not want to read it.

And now on with the show.

Hiro is my Hero!

After last night’s episode I really want to see him fight that dinosaur!!! I think that will be very interesting. Hiro just seems so much more badass with the sword than without, but I still like him as he is now because of his friendliness and his cheerful naivete. It’s refreshing because it’s so genuine and the contrast between him and his future self makes him all the more intriguing… because now I want to know what ended up changing him.

As for the rest, I don’t honestly care too much for the whole DL, Micah & Nikki/Jessica subplot. It just doesn’t seem to be going much of anywhere right now except looping within it’s own little circle of influence. There has to be a better tie to the rest of them than Ando’s stalkerlike attraction to Nikki, Hiro’s chance meeting with DL on the road or Nikki/Jessica’s one night stand with Nathan.

I’m dissapointed that Eden is now apparently dead because I thought she was a real sweetheart despite her being HRG’s minion. And I really was hoping that she and Mohinder could hook up and figure things out.

Very intrigued about the Haitian and his revelation to Claire. I love it when plots and loyalties start to become labrynthine.

I’m glad Issac can now paint without the drugs. It seemed like such a waste. It’ll be interesting to see how or even if his visionary paintings will change without the drugs.

Future plotwise I’m looking forward to seeing what Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who #9 for those of you who don’t recognize the name) will bring to the show when they add him in as Peter’s new mentor, Claude the invisible man.

Which hopefully will be soon because it looks like Pete got too close to Radioactive Man and ends up blowing NYC sky high. Either that’s what happened or he’s having a precognitive dream and putting himself in Nukeboy’s place.

Anyways. Despite it being 9pm. I’m exhausted and am now going to crash out and sleep. G’nite.
