Introspection…

Some of my more enjoyable memories of high school were spawned in my grade eleven and twelve English Literature classes with my favourite teacher, Gil Bunch. In his classes, my eyes were opened to the past and the brilliance of literary minds long since turned to dust. From him I gained a deep appreciation for Wilde, Tennyson, Chaucer, Coleridge, Byron, Kipling and many others.

Sadly, Gil passed away a few years ago, but the impact of his teachings on my life will always be felt.

And on that poignant note, here is one of my favourite poems that Tennyson wrote

Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,

And one clear call for me!

And may there by no moaning of the bar,

When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,

Too full for sound and foam,

When that which drew from out the boundless deep

Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,

And after that the dark!

And may there be no sadness of farewell,

When I embark;

For though from out our bourne of Time and Place

The flood may bear me far,

I hope to see my Pilot face to face

When I have crost the bar.
